Traditional Bark Carvings

This is the style on which Ales developed his carving skills. He began with carving in found driftwood wood, creating wood spirits and little basswood projects. Once he discovered cottonwood bark he found his true calling. He was amazed by the possibilities of the barks distinctive forms and natural beauty. Each carving is unique because no two pieces of bark are the same and each is carved in the best likeness for the material. This style of work is becoming more rare due to the material’s uniqueness.
